Each bookmark is given a varnish coat to increase paint longevity and to protect the paint from any scuffs and liquids.
Cotton paper is very durable and resistant, you do not have to use the plastic cover while using your bookmark if you do not wish to, but it is recommended to keep the bookmark inside of the plastic cover to prevent any accidents if the bookmark is no longer being used for its intent. Avoid direct extreme heat to the paint.
